High School Graduation
Well, it's that time of year when schools get ready to launch the most recent graduates onto the college stage, and eventually into the real world of ideas, beliefs, values, and education. Recently, I shared a few thoughts with a group of graduating seniors. I reminded them that the universe doesn't revolve around them. Imagine their faces..."How can that be?" Soon they will face the hard truth that they may not be as prepared as they anticipated they were. Much like the pioneers of the past who have walked that same road, they will have to figure it out. They will need to grapple with ideas, form their own value systems (and re-form them), and embrace what a true education teaches any of us. Namely, that you don't know everything, you couldn't possibly know everything, and that the goal is not to know everything. So...soon to be graduates, enjoy the questions! There will be lots of them. You have what it takes to wrestle with them. Find your voice! Lead! Think for yourself! The rest falls into place.
